Securing your Duty of Care
Securing your duty of care
Studying abroad can be an exciting and enriching experience, but it also comes with a unique set of risks and challenges. From unexpected medical emergencies to extreme weather events, there are many things that can go wrong. Universities have an incredible responsibility in their duty of care towards international students. While it is impossible to eliminate the dangers entirely, there are steps that can be taken to mitigate the risks, and support networks available to ensure expert assistance is on hand 24/7 should a critical incident occur.
Student Parachute was created with a vision of empowering universities to provide their international students with access to market leading geolocation tracking, student protection and assistance services that deliver safety in the unexpected.
From its inception, Student Parachute was designed to complement traditional overseas student health insurance products by protecting against the risks no university, student or family member wants to consider – like terrorist attacks and natural disasters. Our safety and security services are now being delivered 24/7 by global leaders in medical, security and travel assistance services, using cutting edge device enabled geolocation technologies to keep students safe.
Our services are delivered to students via two intuitive apps, CAP Advantage and Sentinel Travel Oracle [add links to associated web pages]. These apps include a range of safety tools that can help students studying abroad to prepare for travel, feel more secure in their new host country and navigate an emergency. Safety tools include destination-based education materials, location tracking, check-in functionality, and duress alert features. Triggering an alert in one of the Apps will immediately put the student in contact with one of our 24/7 response teams, who will contact the student to provide immediate assistance and coordinate emergency services if necessary.
We also recognised the link between physical safety and mental wellbeing, and introduced the tertiary education sector to Thrive, a leading clinically effective mental well-being app that builds resilience against stress, anxiety and depression. Students can speak in-App to clinically trained wellbeing coaches at the touch of a button, receive their own mental health self-management program, and be prompted to reach out to professionals when at-risk conditions are identified.
One of the major advantages of Student Parachute is that we can provide alerts and travel risk information for almost every country in real time. Students can also access global networks of medical and security professionals 24/7 to provide support and assistance - no matter where they are in the world. This means students are protected by our comprehensive mental wellbeing, travel risk management and security services not only while they are at university, but also during a pre-study stop-over or whilst on semester break holiday in another country.
Student Parachute is built upon enduring partnerships, aligned interests and working with the market leaders. Our security services are delivered by the global leaders in international medical, security and travel assistance services, and our wellbeing technology provider is currently supporting more than 1.6million people globally. We bring our services together with leading health funds and universities to provide their international students with comprehensive health insurance, mental wellbeing, and physical security and response services in one student-led solution.
